IRO Printemps Spring/Summer 2012

    

Being 26 and more quality conscious these days, parisian label IRO seem to be fitting for the gentle punk/alternative aesthetic that I deliberately bring into the bottom note of my daywear. I find that you can always create smart outfits with an attitude from their clothes, even if most of their designs are "tried and tested" rock chick styles. They are perfected though, through the use of good quality fabrics and relaxed cuts. The best part is, their clothes are easily paired with what I already have, so shopping with them is definitely a smart investment for my wardrobe. These are rather similar reasons to why I love Zadig et Voltaire but IRO appeals to the more feminine side of that aesthetic. 

Their Spring/Summer campaign is a good showcase of their usual offerings each season and how wearable they are, no matter where you are. Here are some of my favourite looks and pieces.

 

 

I really love the print on this dress paired with an oversized sports looking jacket. 

 

 

The jacket really speaks for itself, a statement on its own.

 

 

And my favourite look of all, a very simple muted bright red combined with a faded red colour, with white shorts. I've been lusting for that jacket since a previous post but the perfect shade of red in a leather jacket is so hard to find. 

Are there any Iro wearing ladies out there? Would love to discover their style. In so far, I've only spied Betty of Le Blog de Betty wearing a sequinned Iro jacket. 

Modern Armour

Every time I'm seen wearing dual gold cuffs or am thinking about wearing them, you can blame it on Wonderwoman or any other tough superheroine that I like. In fact, all the tough female superheroes, villians and assassins tend to sport some kind of armoured accessory. It's not that it contains a secret weapon or power in these things, but they just kind of reinforce the whole "i don't take no sh**" attitude you know? Etro's polished gold plissé cuff is definitely superheroine worthy at a princely sum of £650.91.

On a less superheroine basis, Repossi for Zadig & Voltaire mosaik inspired cuff would be less attention-seeking. 

Luckily, I found a very wallet-friendly version from Mango. It looks almost half as good. 

All these metal armour has reminded me of a lady that i used to love when I was 10 years old, Lucy Lawless as Xena, also brandishing the signature dual arm and wrist cuff. 

 

 

To make things sweeter, this Versace leather-panelled dress would so fit into the whole superheroine look, even if its not on fighting grounds but for cocktails. 

 

 

Ripped and Rolled Sunday

I like my loose fitting, languid and fuss free t-shirts. Or what I call "awake from sleep and out the door" shirts. Spending sunday at home catching up on essential reading, discovering new bands and food shopping in my neighbourhood calls for such a shirt. And yeah I know I'm disgusting, I slept in this shirt and wore it out as promised. Comfort is key for my sundays usually. If anyone doesn't like it, Rooney Mara has a message for you below. ;-)

Wildfox wins hands down for making fun versions of these shirts. I got mine from Topshop though. You can always count on em for a similar cut and wash. Worn with my old Miss Sixty silver waxed jeans which I had turned into shorts. My legs just can't tolerate the heat outdoors when they were jeans before.

Folk & Punk Playlist This Week On YouTube

This week was a musical connection of sorts I'd say. A friend made me check out Gaslight Anthem Brian Fallon's version of Atlantic City by Bruce Springsteen which got me into listening to some good ol' Springsteen myself. At the same time, we reminisced on Joe Strummer of the Clash and talked about songs written about Joe after his death (Strummerville by Stiff Little Fingers and I would've called you woody joe by Gaslight Anthem)

On friday morning, a PR statement announced that the Foo Fighters have cancelled their tour to Singapore due to Dave Grohl's medical condition. Now if you put all the musical references together, it reminded me of one of the most special punk performances for me of all time. "London Calling" performed by Elvis Costello, Springsteen himself and Dave Grohl.

 

And here are the rest of the songs mentioned which are all worth a listen (or on repeat!).
